CANDLEWAX  QUARTZ

RUMSBY'S  MINE,  THE GULF. N.S.W.

The crystal is a good example of this classic location's form and colour. Note the contrast of the smooth, translucent

tip with the remaining white sparkling appearance of the sides. The multiple secondary growths on all sides are very typical and serve to enhance the overall effect beautifully. The little holes in these crystals were made by minute beryl crystals dislodged long ago and very rarely are they found attached. It is in really good condition.

GREEN FLUORITE - RUMSBY'S MINE - THE GULF,   EMMAVILLE N.S.W.

This piece has good colour giving it a beautiful green ice appearance which is very appealing as you can see. It is a nice piece from this mine in the Gulf area, and its translucent exterior with a lovely sheen masks the interior which is mostly clear. The colouration is paler on one side it appears and  is essentially a free-formed piece which is quite typical of the fluorite from here.

CITRINE  CRYSTAL  GROUP

BISMUTH AREA, TORRINGTON. N.S.W.

This group has four pale citrine crystals with lots of fine secondary quartz at the base. One of the main crystals is tabular. All crystals intersect eachother. A dark smoky quartz core is hidden by the citrine and is a signature feature of this particular Torrington site. On both tips there is one minute chip which does not really detract from the  overall appearance.

MANGANO  CALCITE

BROKEN  HILL.  N.S.W.

This lovely piece is a soft pink cluster of dog-toothed calcite which reveal on closer inspection, secondary spikey crystals on each one, resembling a forest of tiny pink pine trees. At the forefront are larger crystals of the same. If you look very hard you may see there is a tiny chip on one crystal in the centre top as shown in photo but doesn't detract from the overall appearance. Otherwise is in excellent condition. The iron staining on the left is caused by an unidentified mineral (Goethite?)of mamillary form. On the front where the larger crystals are, the underlying base is pale grey which is attractive with the pink calcite. It was difficult to capture the soft colours adequately in the photograph. This one has to be seen in person to really appreciate how special it is.

PYROMORPHITE

BLACK STAR OPEN CUT,MT. ISA,

QUEENSLAND.

Black Star has since closed and we would expect no more of these to be avalaible for collecting and subsequently harder to come by in future . This piece has pale coloured crystals and the darker areas in the middle are where microscpic xls are covering the matrix as a very thin layer. There is a totally matt finish to the cyrstals and no damage could be detected to the main area at all.

NATIVE  COPPER

MT.ELLIOTT MINE, VIA CLONCURRY.

PRICE:  $250

QUARTZ -  ARKAROOLA, FLINDERS RANGES, STH. AUSTRALIA

It looks simple enough in the photos but it is not. The orange colouration showing in a swathe across the piece is actually encased in the crystal tips. Also the hundreds of clear to translucent forms cover a base of very thin darker volcanic matrix containing blades of ultra thin quartz revealed in the underside in a pocket. That matrix is the reason for the grey colouration reflected underneath some of the crystals in one area of the cluster No damage and it really is very beautiful in person.

SIZE: 153mm L x 87mm Front To Back x 47mm      PRICE: $45      ITEM NUMBER:  AM409

MALACHITE WITH AZURITE- SIR DOMINICK MINE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

This colourful rich green specimen of malachite crystals has almost completed its transformation from azurite but not quite- the underside revealed it has a little way to go to hide its secret (as shown above). The back view is very similar to the front of this specimen. Sir Dominick Mine is renowned for producing specimens of beautiful  rich colour and form with a pleasing sheen. Excellent condition. Collected over 40 yrs ago and still a beauty. I am sure anyone who loves Australian minerals would be very pleased to have this in their collection.
